Siyavush Novruzov criticizes State Department report, which recognizes the occupation of Karabakh by Armenians

A high-ranking representative of the ruling party in Azerbaijan once again showed ignorance, calling the document recognizing the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan non-objective. The talk is about the US State Department report on the state of human rights in the world in 2018, released the day before. Commenting on the Voice of America radio report, which contains facts of human rights violations in Azerbaijan, Siyavush Novruzov, deputy executive secretary of the Yeni Azerbaijan Party, called the report “biased and one-sided. “The preparation of such reports serves certain interests,” he said.

Representatives of official Baku traditionally accuse the West of ignoring the Karabakh problem in their reports on Azerbaijan. However, the same Siyavuz Novruzov and his colleagues are often not even aware of what is written in these documents. Otherwise, he would not have called a document that said:

“Separatists, with Armenia”s support, continued to control most of Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding Azerbaijani territories. The final status of Nagorno-Karabakh remained the subject of international cooperation by the OSCE Minsk Group, cochired by France, Russia, and the United States.”

It is noteworthy that the same wording is contained in the State Department report both in the section on Azerbaijan and in the section on Armenia.
